Archipelagos-ambiente e sviluppo, Italia

Beginning with several teaching collaborations with marine biologists (see short film), students in beginning studio arts classes learned color theory and observational skills simultaneously with exposure to fieldwork on specific pinnipeds and their habitat threats.   Their work was first presented in Barcelona at the World marine Mammal Conference in 2019 and the project continues.

I am a member  of the NGO  Archipelagos – ambiente e sviluppo, working with Dr. Luigi Elio Alessandro Bundone and Dr. Gema Hernandez-Milian.   We are making art that communicates current research data (see Quilt Presence) collected about the habitat of the Mediterranean Monk Seal and photo identification technology, and micro plastics.

We hope that by expressing accurate scientific data through art we might provide a clearer, more accessible way to comprehend the complex and status of the Mediterranean environment.  A composition free of judgment permits the viewer to gain awareness of the issues as detected by the data analysis and then their form their own opinions.
